Brief History
The Odessa Presbyterian church was started in 1883 and was known as Cumberland Presbyterian until 1906 at which time it became known as the First Presbyterian Church. In 1883 the land where the church was built was donated by John C. Cobb and on January 27, 1883 the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Odessa, Missouri was organized. This church was the first church to open it's doors in Odessa. There were four churches erected on the original site, the first building was destroyed by a violent windstorm, the 2nd building had to be rebuilt due to faulty materials, the 3rd building was destroyed by fire. Church membership has varied through the years with the peak attained at around 200 during the pastorate of Rev. Gauss and Rev. Wiles. In 2004 the church moved to it's new location and the name changed to New Horizon Presbyterian Church, the land was donated by B.B. and Laura Barr. Currently the membership is around 50.
Worship
Our goal and focus at New Horizon is worshipping God.
We use music, the Bible, shared readings, and good preaching to do that.
Everyone is encouraged to participate as much as they feel comfortable doing.
The Lord’s Supper is celebrated every Sunday.
We have an open table, so everyone is invited to partake.
