"Inclusive AND Welcoming: Congregations and Queer+ Christians"

Many congregations today are proud of their
welcome to queer Christians. Whether through
rainbow flags or “all are welcome” signs – from the
outside it seems that mainline congregations don’t
face challenges with including queer Christians in
their lives together. But there is a difference between
welcoming and including. Through personal narratives
and professional insight, this panel brings together
three faith leaders who are leading the Church in the
work of building inclusive congregational cultures. The
panel will explore how churches can foster inclusive
cultures by addressing power imbalances and making
space for voice and agency of the queer community.
The stories shared will delve into the pain of being
only welcomed but not included and thereby explore
the power and opportunity congregations have in fully
including all in their life together. Inclusion goes
beyond mere signage and begins with the challenges
of how congregations can fully live into an inclusive
vision of the church.

Panelists: Tripp Fuller; Rev. Dale Jackson - Presbyter for Vision & Leadership, Heartland Presbytery; Rev. Jenny Wells, Pastor, Central Presbyterian Church; Rev. Brian Ellison, Executive Director, Covenant Network of Presbyterians
